Salvia spathacea

Hummingbird Sage: CA native groundcover with bright magenta flowers. 12-30" tall, spreading by rhizomes to about 4’ across. Attractive, evergreen, fruity scented leaves. Deadhead in fall. Grows well under oaks. Low to medium water. Full sun to part shade. Seacoast, wind, clay, sand, heat and drought tolerant once established, but appreciates occasional irrigation. Gopher and deer resistant. Great in containers.
