Ribes viburnifolium 'Spooner's Mesa'

'Spooner's Mesa' Catalina Currant, Island Gooseberry: California native evergreen groundcover to low spreading shrub 2-3' tall x 4-6' wide, with fragrant foliage and small red flowers in late winter–spring. This form is noted as also having fragrant flowers and broader leaves than the typical variety. Attracts hummingbirds, birds, wildlife, and pollinators. Good for containers and for cut foliage. Part sun to shade. Low to medium water. Seacoast, wind, sand, clay, heat, and drought tolerant once established. Deer, rabbit, gopher, and fire resistant.
