Ribes californicum

California Gooseberry, Hillside Gooseberry: Deciduous CA native shrub 4-6' tall and wide. Prolific, small, pendant, white and red fuchsia- like flowers hang along reddish-brown colored thorny stems in winter, followed by small red, bristly, thorny, and globular edible berries. Attracts hummingbirds, birds, butterflies and pollinators, including the White-lined Sphinx Moth. Bright green leaves turn crimson color in the late summer. Part sun to part shade. Seacoast, clay, sand and drought tolerant once established. Deer, gopher and fire resistant.
