Frangula (Rhamnus) californica 'Eve Case'

CA Native evergreen shrub to 6–10' tall and wide with glossy green foliage. Fragrant, greenish-yellow flowers in spring followed by dark red, almost black, berries. Attracts birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, pollinators, and wildlife. Excellent for hedges, screens, and naturalistic landscapes. Full sun to part shade. Low to medium water. Seacoast, wind, clay, sand, heat, and drought tolerant once established. Deer, gopher, rabbit, and fire resistant.
