Oemleria cerasiformis

Oso Berry, Indian Plum: CA coastal and foothill native, dioecious, deciduous suckering shrub 5-7' tall x 5' wide found in streamside and moist areas. Nodding clusters of fragrant white flowers on bare stems in early spring. Upon successful pollination, this plant can produce small blue-black edible (but bitter) fruits. Attracts, hummingbirds, birds and pollinators. Best in part sun. Medium to high water (but not boggy) . Seacoast, wind, heat, sand, clay, bog and drought tolerant once established. Deer, rabbit and fire resistant.
