Berberis oiwakensis (Mahonia lomariifolia )

Chinese Holly: Spiny, sharp leaved evergreen shrub 6'-10' tall x 5' wide.  Beautiful symmetrical rosettes of leaves on a multi-stemmed scaffold. Can grow to 12' or more. New growth is reddish hued. Yellow flowers in fall- early spring followed by powder blue grape sized berries that birds enjoy. Attracts hummingbirds and pollinators. Great in containers and for cut flowers. Full sun to part shade. Medium water. Coast tolerant but not especially salt tolerant. Heat, clay, sand and drought tolerant. Deer, rabbit and gopher resistant.
