Himalayacalamus planatus (H. asper, Neomicrocalamus microphyllus))

Princess Bamboo, Red Bamboo: Attractive dense clumping bamboo. 1 1/2" wide culms. In more sun, the culms turn maroon to almost black with delicate purplish green leaves. In shade, the culms remain rich green with white node rings. Culms get darker, sometimes almost black, in winter. Grows in a fountainlike shape 15-20' tall. Part sun to part shade. Medium water. Deer and fire resistant.
