Frangula (Rhamnus) californica

Coffeeberry: CA native shrub can eventually grow to 7' tall x 10' wide. Fragrant, greenish-yellow flowers in spring followed by dark red, almost black, berries. Attracts birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, pollinators, and wildlife. Excellent for hedges, screens, and naturalistic landscapes. Full sun to part shade. Low to medium water. Seacoast, wind, clay, sand, heat, and drought tolerant once established. Deer, gopher, rabbit, and fire resistant.
