Woolly Sunflower: Rare CA native evergreen shrub from the Channel Islands 4-6 feet tall and wide with 6-8" long dissected silvery white leaves that look like a large 'Dusty Miller' plant. Tight clusters of small yellow daisy-like flowers rise above the foliage in early summer. Later, the persistent florets become a chocolate brown color that contrast well with the silvery foliage. Best to give it a hard pruning in late fall or winter before the new growth emerges. Good in containers. Attracts hummingbirds, birds and pollinators. Full sun to part sun. Low water. Seacoast, wind, heat, sand, clay and drought tolerant once established. Deer, rabbit, gopher and fire resistant.
