Elegia capensis

Horsetail Restio: Evergreen grass-like perennial with spreading clumps of upright, rich green, cane-like stems or culms, with chestnut brown culm sheaths. Grows 5-8' tall x 3-5' wide. Whorls of wispy modified branches grow from each node, and the stems are topped by yellow-brown, reed-like flowers in spring followed, on female plants, by brown nutlets. Great for the edge of a pond and bog. Full sun to part sun. Seacoast, wind and clay tolerant. Deer resistant.
