Echium fastuosum (candicans)

Pride of Madeira: A rapidly growing evergreen shrub to 4-6' or more tall x 6-8' wide with long, narrow, gray-green leaves. Large 20" long flower stalks bearing small bluish-purple flowers with reddish stamens. Attracts hummingbirds, bees and pollinators. Good for cut flowers. Full sun. Low water needs. Seacoast, wind, sand, clay, heat and drought tolerant once established.  Can reseed. Gopher and deer resistant.
