Collinsia heterophylla

Chinese Houses: Annual CA native wildflower to about 12" tall. Bi-colored purple and white flowers in whorls from mid spring to early summer. Attracts hummingbirds, birds, pollinators and butterflies including the rare Bay Checkerspot Butterfly. Used medicinally by native Americans. Good in containers and for cut flowers. Full sun to part shade. Low to medium water. Seacoast, clay, sand and drought tolerant once established. Reseeds when happy. Tolerates wind but might need staking. Deer, rabbit and fire resistant.
