Flowering Quince: Early spring blooming deciduous shrub 2-3' tall and wide produces beautiful red flowers on contorted, grey colored stems. Flowering stems are used in arrangements to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Leaves are long and green with slightly curled edges. Fruits resembling small bumpy apples develop in autumn, and while edible, they are astringent. With enough sugar they can be palatable. It's not the type of quince typically used for jelly. Attracts Hummingbirds, birds, and pollinators. Full sun to part shade. Seacoast, heat, sand, clay and drought tolerant once established. Deer and rabbit resistant.
