Carex subfusca

Rusty Sedge: CA Native evergreen sedge that has a wide distribution throughout the western US from the sea to the desert. Occurs mostly in seasonally wet meadows and creek beds. To 8-12" tall. Spreads by rhizomes to form dense stands. Full sun to part shade with low to medium water. Brown flower heads in springtime. Drought tolerant once established. Good lawn substitute.
