Western Spice Bush: CA native deciduous shrub, multi stemmed small tree, or hedge 5-12' tall and wide. Typically seen in moist areas. Fragrant foliage and extraordinary fragrant maroon-red flowers in spring-summer. Good for cut flowers. Attracts hummingbirds, birds and pollinators. Medicinal uses. Part sun to shade. Medium to high water. Seacoast, heat, clay, sand, bog and drought tolerant, but prefers moisture. Deer, rabbit, gopher and fire resistant.
