Calamagrostis nutkaensis

Pacific Reedgrass, Nootka Reedgrass: Evergreen CA native bunchgrass with ornamental uses with 1/4" wide grass blades and attractive narrow, slender inflorescences. Grows to 3' tall and wide. Found in coastal areas from AK to San Luis Obispo Co. Flowers start purplish or greenish then fade to tan or straw color. Full sun to part sun. Medium to high water. Appreciates moist environments like beaches, dunes, coastal woodlands, and wetlands. Seacoast, wind, heat, clay, sand, bog, and drought tolerant once established. Good for containers. Deer, rabbit, gopher and fire resistant.
