Berberis (Mahonia) aquifolium

Oregon Grape: Official state flower of Oregon. Evergreen shrub with holly-like, sharp pointed leaflets on long, woody, arching branches. 6-10' tall and wide. New leaf growth emerges red in the Spring. Profuse, fragrant, yellow flower clusters in spring followed by edible blue black berries that attract birds. Blossoms attract hummingbirds and pollinators. Low water. Full sun to part shade. Heat, wind, clay, sand and drought tolerant once established. Deer, rabbit and fire resistant.
