Aristolochia californica

Dutchman's Pipe: CA native rhizomatic deciduous vine or groundcover to 20' long with green heart foliage. Twining stems and unusual, striped, mixed color purple and brown to greenish pipe-shaped flowers in late winter to spring.Produces showy green fruit. It is a host plant for the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly. Attracts birds and pollinators. Part shade. Low to high water. Seacoast, wind, heat, clay and sand tolerant and drought tolerant when established. Deer and rabbit resistant.
