Myrsine africana

African Boxwood: Hardy, slow-growing, upright shrub that grows 6-8' tall and 4-5' wide. New growth has red coloration, while older leaves and stems are grayish and leathery. Has insignificant cream flowers followed by small dark berries, Mostly grown for foliage. Good in containers. Can be hedged into formal shapes, similar to boxwood but reliably evergreen. Full sun to part shade. Low to medium water. Clay, sand, seacoast, heat, wind and drought tolerant once established.
